DIET

I am very proud to say I feed my dogs BARF (Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) and on this page I’ve just put together an easy pictorial that shows exactly what my dogs get to eat every day.
After  researching for couple months on the internet and reading few books about feeding raw this is what I decided would be best to feed my bullies. I been feeding them this for the last 3 years and I had very good results with it. Their fur is glossy and looks very healthy and I never had a skin problem ever since, not to mention Jinx who was a very  fuzzy eater when I was feeding her kibble eats every meal on her own now. I also reared a litter of puppies with natural food and they grew up healthy n strong. So if somebody tells you if you BARF your puppy  it won’t grow up properly is a lie.
I believe BARF if healthy and also fun for the dogs just as a balanced natural diet is healthy and fun for humans. Just think about it would you like to eat some dried granules that come out of a box every day?? I surely wouldn’t!!!
Please note that there are many variations on BARF! There is no right or wrong, is just a question of what works best for you and your four legged friend(s).
As a general rule an adult dog should eat around the equivalent of 3% of his body weight every day, divided into 2 meals. 50% of this should consist in raw meaty bones and 50% the “dog mix”( the recipe for this is presented lower on this page). Pregnant or lactating bitches, puppies, stud dogs or very active dogs require more while old or sedentary dogs less. Please keep in mind that the individual needs of a dog can vary with age, level of activity and other factors  so use your common sense to adjust the amount of food you’re giving every day to maintain your four legged companion in shape.

In the morning my dogs eat raw meaty bones (RMB) like chicken wings, necks and carcasses, lamb ribs and sometimes other RMB’s depending on what I can find.

During the day the may have a snack made of fresh chopped fruits and yogurt or cottage cheese:

At dinner they get a portion of what I call the “dog mix” which is basically a mix of minced beef, liver and fish with pureed raw vegetables.

The proportions are the following:
• 50% pureed vegetables
• 40% minced beef
• 10% liver (I usually use lamb liver but cow liver is good also).

"DOG MIX" RECIPE

I take fresh vegetables such as: carrots, parsnips, cabbage, broccoli, zucchinis, celery, spinach etc  :

I wash and peel everything and than cut them into little cubes:

I add the chopped veggies into my food processor:

And I puree them togeder untill they look like this:

barf

Because I own a very small food processor I have to puree the vegetables in small portions but this is how they look when I am done pureeing and mixing them:

Than I add grinded beef that I normally buy in the supermarket:

And liver(but only after I grind it):

I also add  fish to this because my dogs are fuzzy and they refuse eating it for breakfast 1 time/week as they are supposed to so I just grind it(including the intestines) and put it in the mix. I usually buy oily fish as mackerel or herring but because when I made this pictorial I couldn’t find it I bought rainbow trout:

Everything goes into the bucket:

And because the composition is very thick I add a bit of yogurt so I can mix it better:

This is how it looks when I am done mixing all the ingredients together:

After that I divide it into portions and put it in plastic bags and after freeze it:

I defreeze a portion each night for dinner and before I serve it to the dogs I add a bit of cottage cheese and a bit of minced tripe and 3 times/week a whole raw egg and that’s it:

Yumyyyy…I like it so much!!!!

I know this may look complicated but actually is not and the dogs just love it. I make the dog mix every 2weeks and it takes me about one hour and a half and than I just have to remember 1hour before dinner to take a bag out of the freezer and put it in a bowl with hot water.
